Breastfeeding Cafe

Mamas and Babies Connecting at a BC

Breastfeeding Cafe

We meet monthly (4th Saturday) at the First United Methodist Church on the corner of Juliana & 10th in Parkersburg, WV – 10am-12pm.  We have an educational focus to ensure that new moms have the information they need for a successful start to breastfeeding, and support all stages of breastfeeding, extended breastfeeding, weaning…etc.  This is an excellent opportunity to get used to nursing in public and allow your children to be around other nursing mothers.

In July of 2011, we introduced a new series-format that will be held twice a year, which will allow moms wanting the most information in a consecutive framework to attend 4 monthly meetings with the following topics:

1 – Pregnancy & the Newborn Period (January, July)
2 – Common Questions (February, August)
3 – Transitional Stages & Starting Solids (March, September)
4 – Weaning & Tandem Nursing Relationships (April, October)

We always have time at each meeting for impromptu topics, random discussions, and varied questions.  Additionally, months listed will be utilized for other miscellaneous topics pertaining to breastfeeding.

Registration is not required; however, new-attendees who register by e-mailing or calling will receive a goody bag.  Limited supply of goody bags will be available to non-registered attendees.  We encourage TTC, expectant, currently nursing, and veteran nursing mothers to attend, along with support such as your husband, friend, or a family member.  The more your support team (and those that will be near you as your child grows) knows, the more help you will have postpartum and during the length of your nursing relationship.

Children are welcome; however, we do not offer child care so please be conscientious of your children and ensure that they respect the facility (please do not attend with communicable illnesses).  You may park on the street, or in the parking lot around back; however, you must use the lower 10th street entrance below the stairs.  If you arrive late, and the doors are locked, please call Danielle at 304-482-4729.

Home Birth Social

At our Home Birth Socials, we gather families who’ve experienced home birth and home birth professionals, including midwives,  from our area to provide information to our community on what to expect from this option in your birth.  From differences in midwifery titles and practices, to expectations during labor, and rare situations that may require a transportation – we cover a large variety of topics, and always leave time to share birth stories and discuss everything pertaining to birth.  These are wonderful social meetings to get to know the home birthing community and learn about birth in a positive environment.  We alternate these socials with the Better Birth workshops, and try to hold at least two-per year, to enable us to focus on home birth without conflicting with the positive support from the Better Birth workshop.

Informational, and sometimes emotional. Support just the way you need it.

Better Birth
(affiliated with
Gentle Beginnings - contact us about sponsoring a Better Birth workshop)

Area professionals host a regular 10 Steps to a Better Birth workshop (doulas, perinatal educators, midwives…etc), providing the Mid-Ohio Valley with 10 easy ways of making your birth, the best birth it can be.  We focus on making this event supportive and valuable to any birth experience.  Some moms join us to share birth stories, offer advice, and ask questions.  Some moms are currently pregnant, TTC, and everything in between.  Better Birth workshops are typically scheduled on a quarterly basis, so please Contact Us  for full details and dates.

“I'm so glad we're educating ourselves and are doing things differently this time. It's crazy what our maternity system has turned into. Women are so scared to give birth and it just doesn't need to be that way. I'm genuinely EXCITED!”
